History of the Elected Clerks of Circuit Court & Comptrollers

Walton County was established on December 29, 1824, carved from the territory of Escambia County during Florida’s territorial period. The position of Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller was later enshrined in the Florida Constitution of 1838 as a constitutional office in every county, serving as both the custodian of court records and a key administrator in local government.

The people of Walton County have elected a series of Clerks who have carried out these vital responsibilities: preserving the public record, safeguarding county funds, and performing nearly 1,000 other statutorily required duties. This page honors that history by listing each elected Clerk from 1872 to the present day.
